The song I have chosen for my textual analysis is ‘Modestep - To The Stars (Break The Noize & The Autobots Remix)’. Modestep who created the original song are a new drum and base group who have recently got into the charts with popular songs such as ‘Sunlight’. This song however was not as popular as the remixed which was done by ‘Break The Noize &The Autobots’ who are dubstep DJs who are currently not very well known this song has probably brought them to more mainstream attention.
I would definitely classify this song to be in the genre of dubstep due to its heavy baselines and drops. During the video which I would classify as mainly a performance based the production when the bass “drops” the scene cuts to dancing scenes of a more hardcore nature compared to the build up which is quite relaxed. In many dubstep and drum and base songs the build up is often slow and calm and leads on to the main storyline once the song “drops”.
Due to the sound of this song with the fast changes of the beat, fast cuts have been made usually linking from the crowd switching to the artist on stage. Most of the shots of the crowd are of a fun nature showing them all having a great time. Most people viewing the video may be encouraged to go and watch the band live as it looks so good on the video so through the video they are almost advertising their live shows.
The lyrics in this video do not usually match the scene this is mainly due to it being a remix and muddled up. However a lot of dubstep songs do not even have lyrics at all and some videos can depict a storyline without the use of lyrics. However the mood of this song is a happy one with people having a good time and enjoying the music so the energy of the song mainly comes from the catchy tune.
There are many close ups of the band on stage and off having a good time bringing a fun nature to the video. The crowd close ups are usually when the base drops and we see the dancing and all the fun the audience are having.
In my personal opinion I think that this video is a very impressive and has been done well with the use of different shots and length of shots to suit the beat of the song and match it. The lack of storyline does not matter due to the beat and feeling of the song, the addition of off set shots of the band and the crowd also add to the crazy mood of the song.
